When we are trying to decide on the location of our holidays the first hurdle many of us get to is deciding on the type of location to visit. Do we go with a short and sweet city break? Or do we go for a chilled out week in a beach retreat?
The answer will depend on a number of factors, one of which may be how much you are looking to spend. However, there are plenty of deals out there. Here is our selection of some of the most affordable city and beach breaks you can find.
Krakow (city break)
Krakow is a city full of history and activities. When looking at whether to go on a city break vs a beach break, take into account the number of tourist destinations you wish to visit. In Krakow, you can find affordable day trips to Auschwitz. The Salt Mines and more. If you are travelling from the UK you will also find this city break extremely affordable.
Crete (beach break)
Crete lies on the cusp of the Aegean and has been a favourite beach retreat for many Brits for a number of years. Booking a serviced apartment or villa on the island will give you access to golden beaches, great snorkelling and a wealth of Greek restaurants. A beach retreat here is the perfect way to relax.
Bristol (city break)
If you are looking for something a bit more fast-paced than a week in Crete, Bristol could be a good city break option. There’s plenty to do and see in the harbour district and the high level of serviced apartments around the city means there’s plenty of accommodation to choose from.
Algarve (breach break)
The southern region of Portugal benefits from clear blue skies and pleasant weather for much of the year. Flights can be found fairly cheaply from across Europe and there are plenty of old towns to visit. The sandy beaches may also swing this one if you are a sun seeker. Kitesurfing in Portugal is also quite popular as it has a wide range of coasts and flat-water lagoons all along the coast. You can visit this place if you’re planning a kite trip and enjoy kitesurfing in its soothing surroundings.
City breaks vs beach retreats
All the four option listed provide different benefits and choosing the right option for your holiday will in many cases depend on the amount of time you are away for.
City breaks can be fantastic over a weekend but if you are staying for close to a week a beach retreat may provide you with better rest and relaxation. As always finding the right accommodation for your holiday is essential.
